"Some Battles are Still Worth Fighting"

Kate

Dear Mary,

I cannot thank you enough for donating Pursuit to become the amazing service dog I know and love today. Pursuit has helped me so much already between helping me feel safe and secure going into busy establishments and just cuddling in my recliner (although it’s a bit small and can be a tight fit!) when watching the recent events in Afghanistan.

Although it’s only been two months since we began training, I cannot imagine being without him. Not only is he an amazing service dog, but he’s also a great friend and companion.

After spending so much time in Afghanistan, arriving back in theater each time to either Kandahar or Bagram felt like coming home, but with Pursuit’s help and the support here I’m finally starting to feel as though I can navigate my civilian life. I may not ever actually enjoy spending considerable amounts of time in busy establishments, but now I know I can with him providing safety and support.

Pursuit has brought so much joy and happiness to not only myself, but my whole family who absolutely love and adore him. I can only imagine the happiness that he’s brought to all who have known him and I can’t possibly thank you enough for donating him for this program.

I know many veterans, across the U.S. and currently working overseas that have struggled with the fall of Afghanistan and I only hope that someday they might be able to experience the peace that I’ve found with Pursuit. I don’t know how I would’ve managed the last few weeks without him but I’m certainly glad I didn’t have to find out. Thank you for everything you do. I can’t speak for all SPW teams that have come through or who will graduate in the future, but I know I am so much better already having Pursuit in my life.

Sincerely,

Kate Hedrick
